Our Requirements and Requests to the Freelance Translators

Requirements

1. Capability to execute works subject to the specified requirements.
2. Trainability. Capability to respond adequately to our comments on your translation quality and to make the corresponding alterations in the consecutive works.
3. Capability to reason your case wisely, in case you consider it right.
4. Sound knowledge of your native language. Capability to render correctly the source text in your native language.
5. Sound knowledge of grammar of the foreign language in question.
6. Sound knowledge of the domain indicated in the application form.
7. Capability to make translations using the predetermined vocabulary (if any).
8. Good computer skills, namely, knowledge of the following programs:
  • MS Word (including editing of any embedded graphical objects);
  • MS Excel (including editing of any embedded graphical objects);
  • MS Power Point (including editing of any embedded graphical objects);
  • archivers: WinZip, WinRar;
  • Notepad;
  • Adobe Acrobat (or any other programs to view pdf-files);
  • electronic dictionaries;
  • web-browsers;
  • mail-client.
9. Regular convenient communication means (cell-phone, regularly checked e-mail).
 

Requests

1. Self-training. Continuous improvement of knowledge of the foreign language. Permanent improvement of computer skills.
2. The skill to systematize vocabulary collected in the course of work.
3. Actual virus protection programs with regularly updated bases.
4. Firewall administration skills.
5. Good knowledge of the following programs:
  • ABBYY Fine Reader (or other images/pdf-file recognition program);
  • Trados TM or other similar programs;
  • CD/DVD burning programs;
  • graphical editors;
  • программы восстановления поврежденных файлов форматов *.doc, *.xls, *.pdf, *.ppt и др.;
  • web-page editing programs (we recommend Notepad++ or similar programs);
5. Internet navigation skills, namely, use of the following resources in the course of work:
  • on-line dictionaries;
  • search engines;
  • online transliterators;
  • abbreviation and acronym databases;
  • on-line encyclopedias;
 

Trial Translation

To test your translation skills we offer you to make a trial translation of a text from the foreign language you indicated in your application into the Russian language.
We do not insist on your making this trial translation. When filling in the application form for the position of a freelance translator, you may reject the option of trail translation.
To test your translation skills we may ask you to translate one page of a text in the language you indicated in the application form. Text topics may be the following: technical, economic or legal.
We never offer current orders for trial translations; thus, we never set deadlines — you can make this translation at your convenience.
We offer you to make a trial translation only in the following cases:
  • the data you indicated in the application for the position of a freelance translator are of interest for us;
  • when filling in the application form, you did not reject the option of a trail translation.
All the applications for the position of a freelance translator are considered within 5 workings days from the moment of their receipt.
